About Me.
Hi, I'm Heather Thompson, The Success Coach. As a certified career coach & trainer, I am deeply passionate about helping people globally make career transitions with clarity and confidence. I believe doing work that works for you will put you on the path to living your best life.
I've a deep history with work. I began working at thirteen years of age, painting gates for my dad and other local farmers. The next summer, armed with my first CV, I knocked on doors throughout my local town until I landed my first 'real' job packing shelves at a supermarket. When I graduated university, I had been in paid employment for ten years, while many of my peers were searching for their very first job. Post university, I spent fifteen plus years working in corporate, customer facing roles across the globe.
Growing up on a farm in rural Ireland meant I had an innate work ethic, and over the years I put a lot of care and attention into my career. During my corporate career, I earned multiple promotions in multiple roles, moved from individual contributor roles into management, leadership and ultimately senior leadership roles, reporting into CEOs. I was consistently recognised for exceptional performance by being nominated and winning awards, exceeding expectations in performance reviews and being tagged as a company top talent. This focus on my own career development helped me gain considerable skills in training, business mentorship, mindset, leadership, change management, coaching, recruitment, communication, sales and marketing, cross cultural management, collaboration, innovation, customer experience, diversity & inclusion, employee engagement, business growth, neurodiversity, systems and scale and strategic planning.
The only way I can describe it is that I loved my work, until I just didn't anymore. Rather, I wanted to work with individuals (like you) who are committed to making positive changes in their work. I help people remember who they are and want they truly want, and educate and empower them with the skills and mindset to make the positive changes that will allow them to thrive in business & life. When people talk about my legacy, I want them to say "She made them bigger. She made them better".
One of my personal values is freedom, so setting up my own online career coaching business "The Success Coach", made perfect sense as an outlet to use what I have learned to help other people.
I offer career coaching, job interview preparation, career change support and career development coaching globally, helping people with the skills, tools and strategies they need to successfully build careers they love. My service offerings focus on job interview preparation, career transitions, online career coaching, professional development workshops, alongside personalised one to one career coaching. I share free career resources through my social media channels, email newsletter, "Recipes for Success" podcast and selected freebies!
As a career changer myself, transitioning from corporate to coach, I am now proud to say I am a certified career coach, qualified business & life coach, certified trainer, blogger, speaker, content creator, workshop facilitator and qualified yoga teacher. And I have loads more ideas, dreams and goals -- I'm only getting started!

I completed four modules from the DCU Bachelor of Arts in Humanities (Psychology Major), a Level 8 honours degree programme. These experience improved critical thinking skills, and left me with a deep appreciation for philosophy, alongside a deeper understanding of human psychology.
Covering the key principles of coaching, this diploma taught core me the core skills and confidence to coach, influence and motivate others in order to maximise their potential. As well as best practice coaching techniques like the GROW Model, the course covered topics like Emotional Intelligence and NLP. A hands on course, weekly we participated in coaching triads and class discussions.
This practical, professionally focused, evening diploma course expanded my knowledge of online marketing tools and techniques, such as SEO & PPC, the effective use of social media, how to develop and execute a digital strategy and online sales optimization e.g. A/B testing & clear call to actions.
Received the Avocent International Award for Academic Excellence as I graduated first in my class. I studied topics such as Strategic Management, Innovation & Technology Management and Organisation Theory. Notably, our class led the formulation of a strategic HR plan for Medtronic Galway, presenting to senior executives from both Medtronic Galway and their Minneapolis headquarters. Additionally, my dissertation, "Rethinking your Business Model around Green," explored innovative sustainability strategies, while a strategic analysis for CityBin provided hands-on experience and direct engagement with CEO Gene Brown.
The Bachelor of Business and Law program offers an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on the intersection of business and legal principles. With an emphasis on critical thinking and ethical decision-making, graduates are prepared to navigate complex environments with confidence. In addition, I served as a Committee Member for the UCD Law Review, overseeing article selection, and completed projects such as a reflective learning journal and website development for the UCD Rowing Club.
